Carpenters in Peterborough, covering the city and the villages out to Stilton, Thorney, Whittlesey and Ramsey. Send drawings and we will price the carpentry package, or book a free site visit if it is your own home.
Peterborough is the city AJB Group works in most, and the work here looks different to the Lincolnshire side of the business. It is heavier on commercial: conversions, industrial units, developer plots and compliance driven joinery, rather than one off private houses.
That suits a contractor rather than a carpenter. Peterborough jobs tend to arrive as a tender with a drawing pack and a programme attached, and they are won on capacity and paperwork as much as on price. Fourteen employed carpenters, CHAS accreditation, SMSTS certification and RAMS issued per project are what gets AJB through the gate on those schemes.
Proof
Midgate House, city centre. A 150 flat refurbishment in central Peterborough, taking existing offices and turning them into modern living quarters for the city. Office to residential is its own discipline: you are working inside a structure somebody else designed for a different use, so the partition layout, the acoustic build ups and the fire strategy all have to be set out and built exactly as drawn rather than adjusted on site.
Tente Castors industrial unit, for Probus Construction. AJB was awarded the carpentry tender on a brand new industrial unit in the Peterborough area by Probus Construction, one of the main contractors the company works with most often across Lincolnshire and Cambridgeshire.
Oakwood Homes, five units. The carpentry tender on 5 new units for a local developer, taken as a package rather than as supplied labour.
Five bed homes with HB Developments. Internal second fix carpentry across a run of five bedroom houses, running alongside HB Developments getting the fourth plot out of the ground with block and beam. That is the normal shape of a plot job here: first fix following the shell up the site, second fix chasing it.
Stilton: two roofs, plastics and a posi joist set. Completed in a single week alongside a hip roof extension at Bourne and a hand cut joist set at Spalding. Two roofs plus fascias, soffits and rainwater goods, and a posi joist floor, on the Peterborough side of the county boundary.
A fire safety test centre. Built in Peterborough for a safety contractor. The rooms are used to demonstrate materials and fire door safety mechanisms to trainee fitters coming into the construction industry, which is an unusual thing for a carpentry firm to be asked to build and a reasonable indication of how the company's fire door work is regarded.
Rustic oak sleeper steps, for J Turner Brickwork. A Saturday finish on a new extension in Peterborough: heavy oak sleepers cut and set as steps into the new build, following the masonry package.

Getting to you
Peterborough is about 18 miles south of the Spalding base, straight down the A16 through Crowland, which is roughly half an hour outside the rush. That is close enough that a Peterborough site does not carry a travel premium and close enough to hold two Peterborough jobs and a Lincolnshire job in the same week.
From the city the same run covers Crowland, Thorney, Eye, Werrington, Bretton, Hampton, Yaxley, Stilton, Whittlesey, Market Deeping, Deeping St James, Ramsey and Huntingdon. AJB has completed work at Ramsey, Whittlesey, Stilton, Thorney and Huntingdon, so the surrounding villages are covered in practice and not just on a map.

Common questions
Yes. We carried out carpentry on the Midgate House refurbishment in central Peterborough, a 150 flat scheme turning existing offices into modern living quarters for the city. Office to residential is a specific discipline: existing structure, tight floor to ceiling heights, and a fire strategy that has to be built exactly as drawn.
Yes, and it is the usual way of working here. We were awarded the carpentry tender for a new Tente Castors industrial unit by Probus Construction, and the carpentry tender on 5 new units for Oakwood Homes. Send the architectural drawings, the joist and truss design and the specification and we price the package from them.
Yes. Our joiners built a fire safety test centre in Peterborough for a safety contractor, a set of rooms used to demonstrate materials and fire door safety mechanisms to trainee fitters across the construction industry. We also install FD30 and FD60 door sets on live buildings, with the certification record that goes with them.

Recent work includes two roofs and plastics plus a posi joist set at Stilton, a kitchen and joist sets at Whittlesey, and a bungalow converted at Ramsey. Yes. Domestic work in and around the city has included rustic oak sleeper steps built into a new extension for J Turner Brickwork, six extensions running at once across Norfolk, Lincolnshire and Peterborough, and a full open plan kitchen remodel at Whittlesey.
About half an hour. Peterborough is roughly 18 miles south of our Spalding base straight down the A16 through Crowland, which is why the city is one of the two places we work most often.
Send the drawings and the specification and you will get a package price, not a day rate.
