About AJB Group
AJB Group is a carpentry contractor based in Spalding, Lincolnshire, working across Lincolnshire, Cambridgeshire and Norfolk every day. Fourteen employed carpenters, CHAS accredited, and a free site visit before anything is priced.
The company
AJB Group (Carpentry) Ltd was incorporated on 29 December 2021 and took its current name in January 2022, when the business rebranded from its previous trading name. It is owned and run by Ashley Box, who still walks the sites, prices the packages and answers the phone.
The company started small, taking on domestic first and second fix work around Spalding and the villages either side of it. By August 2025 there were seven full-time carpenters on the books. By March 2026 there were fourteen, alongside a vetted supply chain of self-employed site carpenters and gangs who come back job after job.
That growth came from repeat work rather than advertising. Probus Construction, SSL Home Creations, HB Developments and Eastern Construction Consultants have all brought AJB back onto site more than once, in several cases onto much larger projects than the one that introduced them. Bourne Town Hall, a 16-month renovation with twelve separate roof adaptations, came through exactly that route.
There is a qualification behind that growth as well. Ashley has run AJB Group since 2021, taking it from a two-man outfit to fourteen employed carpenters, and in July 2026 he completed a Level 6 NVQ Diploma in Construction Site Management while the company carried on working. It is an Ofqual regulated diploma rather than a short course, assessed across 22 workplace units on documented evidence from real projects: programme control, quantities and costs, temporary works, dimensional control, materials and plant, and project handover. Level 6 sits at the same level as a bachelor's degree on the regulated qualifications framework. The accreditations page carries the certificate number and how to verify it.
Most carpentry firms in this part of Lincolnshire are one or two people, and there is nothing wrong with that. It is simply a different business. A two-man outfit cannot hold four plots at once, cannot produce a RAMS pack the same afternoon a site manager asks for one, and cannot put a crane on site on a Tuesday morning to land a truss set. AJB Group can, and that capability is the reason the company exists in the shape it does.
Real capability
The difference between a carpenter and a carpentry contractor shows up in the awkward parts of a job: the lift, the trade that follows you, the drawing that does not work, the certificate somebody needs before you get through the gate.
AJB runs its own crane, so joist sets and truss sets get landed without waiting on a hire slot and a driver who has never seen the site. It runs in-house brickwork, plumbing, electrics, plastering and decorating, so a domestic client can hand over an entire renovation instead of stitching five trades together themselves. It produces its own 3D renders before work starts, so the client sees the finish before anybody buys timber.
What does not turn up is a subcontracted stranger. The carpenters on a private extension in Spalding are the same carpenters who set 450 x 450 shutter boxes to millimetre tolerance ahead of 58 concrete pours at Hinchingbrooke Hospital. There is one standard and it does not move with the size of the invoice.

Who we work for
The quickest way to judge a contractor is to look at who keeps hiring them. These are all clients AJB has worked for, and most of them more than once.

Public sector work carries its own weight. Alford Manor House is overseen by East Lindsey District Council, and AJB cut the 20 metre traditional roof on the steel-framed events and wedding venue there for Probus Construction, following J Turner Brickwork on the masonry package. North Norfolk District Council work brought fire door programmes. NHS Hinchingbrooke in Huntingdon brought shuttering and plinth blocks for a four-storey staff accommodation block, working alongside Apex Demolition and the site engineers.
The national brand work sits at the other end of the scale and demands a different discipline again: a Costa drive-thru clad in British red cedar at Hemsworth, a disused Northampton nightclub turned into a KFC and Taco Bell, retail fit-outs where the opening date is fixed months before the first fix starts.

Twelve roof adaptations across a 16-month renovation, including the steel and timber build-up carrying a new five-metre clock.

A 20 metre hand cut roof on a steel frame, a new slate covering, 111 square metres of cladding and the internal fit-out and bar.

450 x 450 shutter boxes set to millimetre tolerance ahead of 58 pours, forming the base for a four-storey accommodation block.
How we work
Send the drawings and the specification and you will get a priced carpentry package back, not a day rate and a shrug. AJB regularly takes the whole package: joists and roof structure, first fix, second fix, doors, staircases, kitchens, with supply and fit options and its own crane for lifts. The accreditations, RAMS and insurance paperwork are ready before you ask, which is usually the point at which smaller firms fall out of a pre-qualification process.
Capacity is the other half of it. Fourteen employed carpenters means several plots or elevations run at once instead of in sequence, and that is normally where a programme starts to slip.
You get one point of contact, a free site visit and a written estimate before anyone lifts a tool. If the job needs brickwork, plumbing, electrics, plastering or decorating, those are AJB's own trades, so you are not chasing five different people for dates. For bigger renovations there are in-house 3D renders so you can see the layout and the finish before committing to it.
What you will not get is the cheapest price. Ashley has said as much publicly and stands by it. What you will get is a written scope, a tidy site and carpenters who do this on commercial jobs for a living.
On the day
Liveried vans, branded workwear and carpenters who clear up after themselves. Small things, but they are the difference between a trade you tolerate and one you call again.
Every AJB van carries the company name, both contact numbers and our CHAS accreditation, so there is never a question about who is on your drive or on your site. Our carpenters are in AJB workwear with the right PPE, and on commercial sites they arrive with RAMS already submitted.
For domestic work that matters more than it sounds. You are letting people into your home, sometimes for weeks. We would rather you recognised the van.
Common questions
Ashley Box. He is the director and a working carpenter, and he prices the packages, visits the sites and answers the phone. AJB Group (Carpentry) Ltd was incorporated on 29 December 2021, company number 13819875, and took its current name in January 2022. In July 2026 he completed a Level 6 NVQ Diploma in Construction Site Management, an Ofqual regulated diploma assessed across 22 workplace units.
Fourteen full-time carpenters as of March 2026, up from seven in August 2025, backed by a vetted supply chain of self-employed site carpenters and gangs. That is enough to hold several plots, elevations or phases at the same time rather than working through them one at a time. If you are a carpenter and that sounds like the sort of outfit you want to work for, there is more on the carpentry jobs page.
Carpenters first. Carpentry is the trade the company was built on and the package most clients buy. Alongside that AJB runs in-house brickwork, plumbing, electrics, plastering and decorating, so a domestic client can hand over a whole project rather than manage five trades.
Lincolnshire, Cambridgeshire and Norfolk daily from the Spalding base. Contract work has also taken AJB to Kent, London, Northampton, Nottingham, Leeds, Wales, Hampshire and Scunthorpe, with accommodation covered for the team when a job is away.
Both, and it is close to an even split. The same employed carpenters who cut roofs on a 300-home development fit kitchens and staircases in private houses, which is why the standard does not change between the two.
Yes. AJB offers a turnkey design and build route using its own trades, including in-house 3D renders before work starts, as well as carpentry-only packages priced from drawings for main contractors.
Send the drawings, or book a free site visit and we will come and look at it.
