Areas · Boston, Lincolnshire
Carpenters in Boston, Lincolnshire, covering the town and the fen villages out towards Kirton, Swineshead and Sibsey. Free site visit and a written estimate, sixteen miles up the A16 from our base.
Boston work tends to arrive in two shapes: structure that has to be right before anything else can happen, and industrial buildings that need changing to suit a new use. AJB Group does both, with employed carpenters rather than whoever is available that week.
The town sits sixteen miles north of the Spalding base on the A16, which is close enough that a Boston job runs on the same footing as a Spalding one. No travel premium, no minimum size dictated by the round trip, and a site visit that can be fitted around a working day.
Proof
A completed joist installation, waiting on its roof. A full joist set finished in Boston in July 2026 and left ready for the next phase. It is not a glamorous photograph, and it is the single best test of a carpentry gang there is. A joist floor is either dead level and dead straight or it is not, and every trade that follows inherits whatever you leave them. Squint down a finished set and you can see immediately whether the hangers were set to a line, whether the trimmers are square, whether the noggins are in plane and whether the deck will take 22mm board without a single squeak. Ours was straight, and the roof structure went on to a floor that did not need packing.
An old gym turned into a school meals prep kitchen, for M Yould & Sons. An industrial unit in the Boston area converted from a disused gym into a commercial prep kitchen that now supplies school meals across the whole of Lincolnshire. This was the second unit AJB has been contracted to convert for the same client, which is the endorsement that matters more than any review.
Food production changes what a fit out has to do. Partitions have to be set out around a process flow rather than around the existing building, the linings have to suit a wash down environment, door openings have to take the traffic that a kitchen generates all day, and the whole job has to be sequenced so the client can commission the space and start producing to a school term timetable rather than a builder's one.
Carpentry packages on the Boston side. AJB holds the full carpentry package on three units with local builder HB Developments, working across the South Lincolnshire region, with the aim of getting all three water tight before winter.

What we do here

Traditional hand cut, engineered and posi joist floors, set to a line and decked in 22mm board.

Cut and trussed roof structures, valleys, dormers, flat roofs and plastics, once the floor below is right.

Industrial and retail unit conversions, partitions, linings, counters and doors, worked around a live occupier.

Everything that has to be right before the boards go on: floors, studs, roof structure, openings and firrings.

Turnkey domestic work with in house brickwork, plumbing, electrics, plastering and decorating.

Domestic and contract kitchens, supply and fit or fit only, sequenced behind second fix.
Getting to you
Boston is half an hour north of the Spalding base, straight up the A16 through Kirton and Sutterton. It is one of the shortest runs AJB makes, which is why Boston work sits on the same commercial footing as Spalding work.
Villages covered on the same route include Kirton, Sutterton, Wigtoft, Bicker, Donington, Swineshead, Wyberton, Frampton, Fishtoft, Sibsey, Old Leake and Wrangle. North of the town the run continues towards Alford in East Lindsey, where AJB is currently on site at Alford Manor House, so the whole Boston to Alford stretch is live working ground rather than a line on a map.
Case studies

A 20 metre hand cut roof on a steel framed structure for a new events and wedding venue, plus a slate roof, cladding and the interior fit out and bar.

A 3 bed semi stripped to a brick shell, a renovation and extension run with our own brickwork gang, and 11 industrial unit joist sets.

Seven plots roofed in a single day at peak, with hand cut hip end porches and cladded undersides across the site.
Common questions
Two jobs worth naming. A complete joist installation, finished and left waiting on its roof structure, and an old gym inside an industrial unit converted into a prep kitchen that supplies school meals across the whole of Lincolnshire. The kitchen conversion was the second unit we have been contracted to convert for M Yould & Sons.
Yes, and it is one of the most useful things a carpentry contractor can do for a Boston occupier. Turning an old gym into a commercial prep kitchen meant partitions and linings set out to suit the wash down and hygiene requirements, door sets that work with the process flow, and a fit out sequenced around a food production start date.
A typical traditional set is C24 8x2 timbers at 400mm centres with 22mm Caberdex flooring over the top. Posi joist and engineered sets are used where the design calls for them, particularly where services need to run through the floor zone rather than under it.
About 16 miles. Straight up the A16 north from Spalding through Kirton, roughly half an hour, so Boston work does not carry a travel premium and can be run in the same week as jobs on the Peterborough side.
Yes. Extensions and renovations are about half of what we do, managed turnkey with in house brickwork, plumbing, electrics, plastering and decorating, so you get one point of contact and a written estimate rather than five trades to co-ordinate yourself.
Yes. We are CHAS accredited and SMSTS certified, issue RAMS per project, and employ fourteen carpenters plus vetted gangs so plots or elevations run in parallel rather than in sequence. Packages are priced from drawings and specification rather than quoted as a day rate.
