Carpenters in Grantham, working across South Kesteven. Free site visit and a written estimate for domestic work, or send drawings and we will price the full carpentry package.
Grantham is where AJB Group's biggest single carpentry package sits. 17-19 High Street is a disused town centre building being turned into 9 apartments and a pharmacy, and the whole carpentry scope on it is ours, from the sash windows on the front elevation to the last kitchen upstairs.
Town centre conversions are a particular kind of job. The building fights you: floors are out of level, the elevation is listed in everybody's memory if not on any register, the street has to stay open, and every internal wall you build has a fire strategy attached to it. They are won by contractors who can take the whole scope rather than by trades who take a slice of it and leave the joins to somebody else.
Proof
17-19 High Street, for Probus Construction. Nine brand new apartments in the town centre, a large win in the South Kesteven district, taken as a full carpentry package. The scope, as awarded:
Phase one put the team on site for six weeks. Since then, 8 of the 9 flats have been formed, with internal and external thermal walls built around steels and ceiling works threaded in between, which is what finally gave the old building a sense of structure.
72 fire doors, delivered and scheduled. Door sets arriving on a nine o'clock delivery ahead of installation across 9 flats, then worked through against a door schedule rather than hung as and when. On a conversion the fire doors are compliance items, so the frames, seals, gaps and ironmongery have to match the strategy and be recorded.
A timber window frontage craned into the town centre. An early morning lift on the High Street: a full timber window frontage for one of the flats, with a half moon window in the middle of it. The crane, the carpenters and the timber windows were all supplied by AJB, so the client had one point of contact for a lift that would normally involve three.
Thermal walls, steels and ceilings. Internal and external thermal wall build ups formed around new steelwork across eight of the nine flats, with ceiling works run in between, ahead of second fix and the nine kitchens.

What we do here

FD30 and FD60 supply, survey and installation. Seventy two door sets across nine flats on one Grantham building.

Timber sash windows, external doors, shop front frames and full frontages, craned in where the street allows nothing else.

Straight flights, winders and double winders, set out against finished floor levels in buildings that are rarely square.

Retail and pharmacy fit outs, hoarding, counters and shop fronts, worked around a live high street.

Supply and fit at volume. Nine kitchens in one Grantham building, sequenced behind second fix.

The whole scope, priced from drawings and written out line by line so nothing falls between trades later.
Getting to you
Grantham is about 26 miles west of Spalding: out on the A151 through Pinchbeck, Bourne and Corby Glen, then across on the A52. It is under an hour, and the run passes two of the towns AJB works in most, so a Grantham site visit can usually be tied into an existing day rather than added to one.
The same route covers Corby Glen, Colsterworth, Great Gonerby, Barrowby, Harlaxton, Denton, Ancaster, Long Bennington and the villages either side of the A1. AJB is also on site at Bourne Town Hall for the same main contractor, twenty minutes back down the road, which is worth knowing if you are weighing up whether a Spalding based firm will really turn up in South Kesteven.

Yes. We installed 72 internal fire doors and frames across 9 flats at 17-19 High Street, delivered in scheduled drops and fitted alongside second fix and kitchens. On a conversion the fire doors are compliance items, so the doors, frames, intumescent seals, gaps and ironmongery all have to match what the fire strategy specifies, and be recorded.
Yes. The Grantham run comes across from Spalding through Bourne, so Corby Glen, Colsterworth, Great Gonerby, Barrowby, Harlaxton, Denton, Ancaster and Long Bennington are all on the way in or a short run out from the town.
Yes. In Grantham town centre we craned in a full timber window frontage including a half moon window, using our own crane. Crane, carpenters and timber windows all came from us, which gave the client one point of contact for a lift that would normally involve three.
Yes. Two double winder staircases were built into the 17-19 High Street conversion. Winder flights are the usual answer where a converted building has no room for a straight run, and they have to be set out against the finished floor levels rather than the existing ones.
Under an hour. Grantham is around 26 miles west of our Spalding base, out on the A151 through Bourne then across on the A52, and we have been on site there in phases since 2025.
We will price the whole carpentry scope, fire doors and kitchens included, from your drawings.
