Carpenters in Wisbech, covering Fenland and the Cambridgeshire and Norfolk border. Free site visit, a written estimate, and made to size joinery rather than something ordered from a catalogue.
Wisbech sits in the middle of AJB Group's working triangle. The company is South Lincolnshire based while operating on the Cambridgeshire and Norfolk border, and Wisbech is where those three counties effectively meet, twenty minutes from Long Sutton, half an hour from King's Lynn and forty minutes from Peterborough.
The work here has leaned towards external timber and made to size joinery rather than large site packages, which suits a town of older housing, self builds, park homes and generous plots. It is also the town the bench joinery has been run from.
Proof
A large mobile home decking, start to finish. Two weeks in Wisbech on one of the largest decks AJB has built. The team had the job from the very beginning: digging out for the posts, setting them, building the frame off them, laying the deck and building the stairs on site rather than buying a set in.
Decking is one of those trades that looks simple in a finished photograph and separates a carpenter from a fitter on site. It is a ground bearing structure with no walls to keep it honest, so it stands or falls on the post setting out, the height of the bearers relative to the door threshold and the damp course, the fall across the boards, the fixing pattern and the joint detail where the frame changes direction. Stairs built on site have to be set out to the actual finished deck height, not to a nominal one, and that is the part a kit cannot do for you.
Bench joinery from a Wisbech workshop. AJB has run bench joinery out of a Wisbech based workshop and recruited a full time bench joiner into it to work alongside an experienced joiner. That is the machine work behind the made to size joinery: fitted wardrobes, media walls, panelling and one off pieces made to the room rather than assembled from a flat pack.
Two large hip roofs at Guyhirn. Six miles down the A47 from Wisbech, AJB completed the first two big hip roofs of that year on a house and garage self build, offered as a roof on and roofed in package so the client dealt with one trade rather than three to get the building water tight.
An oak stair set at Walpole. A few miles east on the Norfolk side, a statement oak stair set completed on a self build, with glass infills finishing it off. It is the first thing you see through the front door, which is why the set out on that flight mattered more than anything else in the house.

What we do here

Decking, garden rooms, hot tub sheds, pergolas, fencing, gates and cladded canopies, built off proper foundations.

Oak and softwood flights, winders, glass and timber balustrades, plus rip out and refit on existing stairs.

Cut and trussed roofs including hips, on self builds, garages and extensions, with a roof on and roofed in option.

Joist sets, structural floors, stud partitions and timber frame, on new builds and conversions.

Turnkey extensions and renovations with in house trades, from strip out to the last coat of paint.
Getting to you
Wisbech is about 20 miles from Spalding, roughly 35 minutes: out on the A151 and A17 through Holbeach, Long Sutton and Sutton Bridge, then down the A1101. It is a run AJB makes often, because the same road serves Long Sutton, Sutton Bridge, Walpole and Tydd Gote.
Villages and settlements covered from here include Leverington, Elm, Emneth, Walsoken, Friday Bridge, Parson Drove, Guyhirn, Tydd St Giles, Tydd Gote, Outwell, Upwell, Walpole, Terrington and Sutton Bridge. Both King's Lynn and Peterborough are inside forty minutes from the town, so a Wisbech job can be run alongside work on either side.
Case studies

A traditional joist set in C24 8x2 at 400mm centres with 22mm Caberdex, then an open plan kitchen remodel with a Belfast sink, quartz tops and a family sized island.

A traditional joist set installed to create a new first floor inside a tight building, then a complete first fix of structural floors, ceilings and external walls.

A hot tub shed with five doors hung and the double sets converted to bifolds, an oak balustrade refit, cement board cladding and a full turnkey renovation.
Common questions
A large mobile home decking, one of the biggest we have taken on, built over two weeks from digging out for the posts through to building the stairs on site. We have also run bench joinery from a Wisbech workshop, and completed two large hip roofs on a house and garage self build at Guyhirn, six miles down the road.
Yes, and properly rather than as an afterthought. The Wisbech deck was taken from start to finish: posts dug out and set, the frame built off them, the deck laid and the stairs built on site. We also build garden rooms, hot tub sheds, pergolas, fencing and cladded canopies.

Constantly. We are South Lincolnshire based while sitting on the Cambridgeshire and Norfolk border, and Wisbech is the middle of that triangle. Fenland, West Norfolk and South Holland all get worked in the same week.
Yes. An oak stair set with glass infills was completed on a self build at Walpole, a few miles east, and a staircase was ripped out and refitted at Sutton Bridge to open up the hallway lighting. Straight flights, winders and double winders are all made and fitted.
